United by Emotions, 2021

The artworks are the result of 100s of drawings created through workshops held with Patricia Quigley's art class at Bache-Martin Elementary School in Philadelphia, and youth at the Lumbini Kindergarten and the Tsuruoka Children's Club in Saiki, Japan in early 2020.

Inspired by Olympic Athletes and the energy expressed in creative movement in sports - youth in the United States and in Japan were asked to think about what their energy and emotions would look like if it was unleashed as a beautiful and creative line that wraps around a circle to create a ring.

The collaboration has taken many forms including an interior sculptural installation and mosaic mural in Saiki, and an interior installation in Philadelphia. The large mural will be later exhibited at the Panasonic Center Tokyo from October 2021 - March 2022. Due to the ongoing pandemic, a pop-up art exhibition on Parasols at Oita JR Train Station which was planned for this summer is postponed to the fall of 2021.

2020日米芸術家交換プログラム

ベン・ヴォルタ、桑門超、佐倉康之によるコラボレーションプロジェクト

 

 

この作品は、2020年初頭にフィラデルフィアのバッハ・マーティン小学校のパトリシア・クイグリー教諭のアートクラスと、日本の佐伯市にあるルンビニ幼稚園とつるおか児童クラブの子どもたちとのワークショップで作成された100枚のドローイングをもとに制作されました。

オリンピック選手と、スポーツにおける創造的な動きの中で表現されるエネルギーに着想を得て、子供たちに自らのエネルギーや感情を線として表現し、それが円を描いてリングを作るとしたらどのようになるかを想像してもらいながら作られています。

 

このコラボレーションは当初都内での展示を予定していましたが、コロナ禍の影響を受けて変更し、佐伯とフィラデルフィアにおけるインスタレーションやモザイクの壁画という形で公開されました。2021年10月～2022年3月には東京のパナソニックセンターで展示を予定しています。2021年夏に予定していたJR大分駅でのポップアップアート展は延期となり、秋に追って公開される予定です。
